Good morning All
Further to the email encouraging us to introduce ourselves, here goes. I've always restored old cars and if you do the job properly it costs. It was for this reason I originally bought a nearly new Rapid 136 in 1989. The idea being that it would be a cheap car to run and offset some of the expense of the expensive stuff. At the time I was running a GTD40 with a stage 3 5.7 litre engine. Sounds impressive but it was an unexciting car on the road, even at illegal speeds. The Skoda on the other hand proved most entertaining even at legal speeds. The GTD soon went but the Skoda has stayed with me. It's still only done 29000 miles from new. I bought it with 800 miles only showing on the clock from a chap who couldn't bear the jokes. I didn't give a toss. In fact at one stage I had a sticker in the back window which said "My Other Car is a GT 40". Which was almost true. It's been used sparingly as a second car. Most important of all it's been waxoiled from new and regularly ever since. Oh and I've always changed the oil and filter religiously as with all my cars. Recently I fitted one of the later cylinder heads, compatible with unleaded petrol. I fitted this not because the car needed it but because I had it as a spare and the head gasket was blowing slightly. This was its first ever head gasket change.

More anon,
Jonathan
