Default Flashing lights and intermittent ps 1.4 fabia

Hi all. I have a 2000 fabia 1.4 and am having similar issues. The lights flash when idle and when driving along, the steering becomes very hard at slower speeds and when going from lock to lock and the steering warning light comes on randomly. Also, every now and again it wont start. It turns over on the key but just sounds like there is no petrol to actually start. If you leave it for about an hour it starts firsdt time! Annoying.
Ive had the alternator changed as my mechanic mate said the voltage was too low but it still happens.
Any ideas on where to look next?

is the alternator charging correctly now ? (TEST when car has been started with no revs applied) you should get 14.4 volts roughly.
have you checked battery fluid levels connection and given a good charge?

    Hi,

I have a similar Fabia 2001. I have had the exact same problems with the car. There was nothing wrong with the battery or the alternator.
The main problem is that the power steering pump has gathered moisture and causes some short ciruits and surges. At least this is what I understood from the mecanics message. The surges have caused some of the wireing to go bad and they were replaced. Fixing the wiring is not addequate. Change of the power steering pump is also needed - at least in my case.

if the battery is charged well.. then you should look on the main electricity of the car as it can be moisurized and it really effects the voltage and make intermittent...
