    Default Handbrake locking rear wheel

For the last year or so, when the car is left for a week or so with the handbrake on it locks the brake on the nearside rear wheel. I can release it by trying to shunt the car forward and back unrtil it 'gives'. My garage says they are aware of this happening to Fabias and they normally replace the brake shoes! Isn't this a bit extreme? Any suggestions?

But the last time this happened it took ages to get the brake to release with the car skidding o the locked wheel until it released. There must be a suggestion to solve this???

Mine wasn't as bad as that, it could be the handbreak cable, as you release the handbreak the cable doesn't release the breaks.
I would suggest something like this needs to be seen by a mechanic.

Before replacing the shoes, They should try to clean the shoes and the other equipment of breaks.

I think this is a common problem with alll cars, well used to be, as I know one older person who tells me off if I used the handbrake if not needed.

AW check the cable, mine failed where it went through the mounting points as it went through the mounts at too sharp an angle, causing a wheel to bind.

also what sainz said, give every thing a clean.

That's all very well if you can release the 'stuck' wheel!!
