    Default about the Rapid

    Hi everyone:

I live in Costa Rica (central america) I'm interested on a Skoda Rapid here in Costa Rica (I have to confess I've never seen one before I found this), asking price around US $ 2000, condition: fair. Currently I own a BMW E30 325i and as expected I love the rear wheel drive layout and driving experience, looking something similar on the Rapid (althought the engine placement is totally different) but also something more unique and perhaps less expensive?

My concerns regarding the Rapid are: replacement parts/parts compatibility: does the Rapid share parts (engine, drivetrain, suspension) with other cars, such as VW? Or are they common engine swaps to more common engines. Is it difficult to properly maintain a Rapid, parts availability issues? My big concern is that spare parts are scare or non existant in my country and if that's the case how often should I import parts.

Also, do you guys know if the Rapid was ever used in racing/rallying? Recommended links in english regarding its racing pedigree, reviews, specs...? Any Rapid specific forum...?

Finally, in case I decided to buy it, what things should I check? engine compression #'s would be around...? any electrical issue? carburator issues? Etc...

Thanks in advance, attached a photo of the Rapid I'm interested in...

    Default Rapid

Just my opinion, but I'd avoid it like the plague.
My brother was a dealer in the mid 80's and they frequently overheated causing terminal results. The problem was the mentality of Canadians who never had to check anything on a car...they just drove them. Skoda requires maintenance!
As for parts....in Canada, they are non existent, I don't know about your area!
