    Default Advice needed ASAP please!

OK, I'm off up to Wolverhampton later today and just going to do my pre take-off checks. Antifreeze was done at the weekend, as was screenwash. I'm checking oil in next hour, so that will be fine. Can't check my tyre pressures because I have anti-theft valve caps and no tool to remove them . Should I just leave it? Or can I use something else to get them off? Here's a pic with one on

Also wondering whether to take this oil breather thing off - Is it a straight forward thing to do? Does having it fitted actually benefit the car in any way? And is it a bad idea to take it off before a long trip (in case anything goes wrong) ?

Also, if there's anything I've overlooked, could you let me know. Sorry for all the questions but I'm not too savvy on maintenance!

    Many thanks

    The captain

dont know how you would get the anti-theft caps off but i'd try your hardest to check the tyre pressures because they can effect the perfomance of the car and with low profile tyres, it can do serious damage to your tred and quickly!
the breather filter doesn't do much apart from give a little whistle  its just for show, but removing it won't make any diffrence i dont think :?
i'd give your break fluid a check aswel if you haven't checked it in a while
    chompy

Ok - update - Just been and checked, the valve caps won't budge but i'll try again in a minute. Need some more oil though. I have some 20W50 that says specially for older high mileage cars. Is this OK?

is there not like a little hole with a screw on the valve caps?
as long as its the right wick it should be fine, probably best to drain your sump first though and do a complete refil, give it a nice clean start

Will do a top up with the oil I have just for the trip and then get it sorted when I'm back.
As for these Valve caps, NIGHTMARE!
The silver bit on the end has a hole that the tool slots into (which I havent got) and then it turns - the black bit on the outside just spins around, so you cant unscrew it. Tried poking something in the hole to turn it but no luck

Anti-theft valve caps - Highly recommended (if you have the tool  )

Sorted the barstewards eventually! Bit of fiddling with the pliers, grabbing onto what I could of the little silver bit on the end loosened them just enough.

Had a good trip and no problems with car, so all is well!

How many miles does your Pug have?

over 200.000 (kilometers) I would reckon 10W 40 Half synt. 20W50 is way to thick.
