    Default Seat Ibiza 1.4 16V SE

    Im thinking about buying the above car but ive got a few questions about it. in the information booklet i have under the engine section it says Compression ratio for the SE is 10.5, Maximum power (PS/kW/rpm) is 85 / 63 / 5000 and Max Torque (Nm/ lb.ft/rpm) 132 / 97 / 3800

    Ive no idea what this means, could someone possibly explain what the Torque is and what the bits in the brackets are

    thanks in advance

    PS=85 kW=63 RPM=5000

    A manufacturer quotes the power of a vehicle at 250PS (Pferdestärke - German for horsepower, equal to metric horsepower and sometimes referred to as 'continental horsepower') converted to watts this would be 183874.7 (250 x 735.4988) and converted to horsepower (imperial) it would be 246.58 (183874.7 / 745.7)

    And RPM is engine Revolutions Per Minute,

    Therefore the engine produces 85PS/63kW at 5000RPM this is the peak power from the engine.

    Nm=132 lb.ft=97 RPM=3800

    Newton Meters is a measurement of Torque or acceleration so the more Newton Meters the better the engine for climbing or drag racing, again Pounds per Feet (lb.ft) 1 Nm=0.73756214837 is the other measurement for Torque.

    Therefore the engine produces it's maximum torque at 132Nm/97lb.ft at 3800RPM.

    Wow that took some thinking...
