Would be glad for any help/advice.
Few days ago, I couldn't turn the key in the ignition when trying to start it. (Not steering lock.) Even with WD40 it wouldn't turn. Eventually I got a bit impatient and forced it anyway,- thinking I'd regret it when the key snaps, but it turned with brute force and I started the car. It had no "bounce back" when it turned the starter motor, so I had to force it partially back too. I got home.
When I took key out(forced again), it didn't do the "click" as it was removed, so the remote central locking doesn't work; as I presume it thinks the key is still in the ignition.

So, I have come to the conclusion that perhaps I mayhave shagged my ignition (good guess!) However, I don't know how they work, or if it's a barrel problem, or worse?
I'm not convinced I can afford to pay for it to be done, and always a bit worried about being ripped off for not understanding how much needs replacing.
Is it something that most people manage to do on their own? Are their special tools for the job or will usual spanner/screwdriver stuff do?
If I replace the barrel and key, I also assume the key won't unlock my car? Are they serial numbered?
As you see I don't really know where to start yet.
Rgds, Karen.
