Unhappy Seat Ibiza GTI Cupra 2.0 16v door lock. Also alarm and braking issue.

    Hi there,

I’m a newbee here, so hello all

I’ve just bought a Seat Ibiza GTI Cupra 2.0 16v and there are a few issues with it that I need to resolve:

The brakes veer to the left under hard braking. I’ve checked all callipers/pistons/pads/discs – all ok. Does anyone know if these cars have a rear brake bias valve or anything similar that could be causing it and if so where is it located?

The remote central locking & normal central locking do not work (though sometimes when I push down the passenger pin the central locking system makes a low pitched whining noise whereby I think it locks the tailgate), which I was going to just suffer, but yesterday the passenger door outer lock barrel completely came out when I tried to pull the lock out (previous to this it had been failing to lock and had sometimes just been turning 360 degrees round). The barrel is now sitting in my house because I thought it would probably fall out if I left it in the door.

Meanwhile I had the battery on charge attached to the car – I did start the car whilst the battery charger was connected. The battery is charged ok.

However, now when I open the door, the alarm (horn) goes off for about 30secs!

So there are the 4 issues:

    Alarm sounding on opening door
Passenger door outer barrel needs replaced
    Central locking not working
Veering to left under hard braking

    Has anyone got any ideas??

    Many thanks,

    Justin

First of all, welcome to the forum.

In my experience front brake steer is normally always caused by a miss balance in the pressure exerted by the front pads on the disc's, this can be due to a few reasons
    1) seized piston, it may look OK but looks can be deceptive
    2) seized caliper slides, check for play or scoring along the pins/slides
    3) air in the system, make sure the calipers are bled of air and the brake fluid is not too old as it becomes hygroscopic when it gets old

Also are the two front tyres the same size/brand/tread depth?

The alarm is auto activating after the battery is disconnected then reconnected, it may be worthwhile getting the key fob working again, does it have a new battery in?

One of the central locking motors are more than likely screwed, locate the poorly one and replace it, it may also be the C/L relay.

    Thanks for the info pakmoto,

I have managed to stop the alarm going off, by disconnecting battery for 10mins - seems to have done the trick. I was getting ready to snip the alarm wires, but couldnt find the alarm!

My priority now is to fix the outer lock on the passenger door. The key was twirling round 360 in the door, so I unscrewed the retaining screw (the one on the side of the door that you have to open the door to get to and take a black plastic cap off). The key then dropped out and bits went everywhere

What is my best plan of action?

new barrel for the passenger door from either scrapyard or Seat and just get a basic key cut to fit the passenger door if I ever need to unlock/lock from outside? and just lock it from inside from now on? Which might be a task in itself because the pin that sticks up from the door panel seems to be permanently stuck down!

    What a nightmare...

    Thanks again,

    Justin
