Engine light on but no code stored ?

Our 2002 1.4 Fabia has the engine light on, but when I plug in my generic OBD2 reader it says no code stored ?

does anyone know what the issue might be ?

Have you scanned all equipment? (not just engine)

ok - not sure my generic reader does that - could be a gearbox or something ?

do i need a specific reader do you think ?

normally the generic readers can read all equipment, but it may be a compatibility issue, I always use a laptop and OBD2 cable, it just gives me more control over the software I use.

There's also a possibility of a earthed engine management light, making it come on when there is no codes stored on the ECU, but best to check OBD2 compatibility first.

I would take it to a dealer, ask them to read codes but not carry out any work, and tell them you don't expect to pay for the codes to be read and reset.

i have a mate coming round this weekend who has the cable and laptop s/w so i hope we'll be able to read the code and go from there.
