    Default Power Steering warning Light

The power steering warning light comes on at startup when the weather is somewhat damp. It goes off as soon as I switch off the ignition and restart the car. This has happened since new but my dealer seems to think there is nothing wrong. I think it is caused by condensation in the ECU and I ma not sure what if anything can be done. Any ideas?

As you said it happenes when it's damp it could be moisture on the sensor.

When this warning light stays on, the power steering is not working. I was rather hoping that someone may have an idea for a fix. Never had this happen on another car. My dealer said he cannot do anything unless the car is with him when the light is actually on; when I did once get it to him with the light on, he said he could find no fault!! Useful.

    Smile Had the same problem!

Hi! I've had the same problem as you describe. And in my case it was just a broken fuse. I didn't find out my self because it was not one of those regular flat fuses. The guy who repaired it called it a "melting fuse" (translatet from norwegian, so i don't know if it's correct). It's located under the powercords connected to the battery. The powersteering on these cars are electrical, not mechanical.

In my case the powersteering could be working for a long time, and then stopped again for a while, and then worked.

If that's the only problem it would not be expensive to fix.

Can someone tell me how to locate this fuse to check it?

It's located under the cap over the battery. On my car there are to caps over the battery. Under the first one is the traditional flat fuses. When you lift of the second cap you will find some powercords. Under the attachment for these cords (wich are numbered from 1-5 i think) there are some fuses that is looking longish and completly flat. If they are busted, they are broken in the middle...

If it's the power steering pump, you have a much more expensive problem...
