Default Skoda Felicia 1.6 1997. Fan control.

    Hi,

I've go the car listed in the topic, and this week the fan control in the car stopped working properly. There are 4 steps on the control, and ony step 4 (witch is the fastest speed) works. step 1-2-3 have no reaction at all. The strange thing is that it worked earlier this week, but not anymore.

Is there any known problems with that relate to this ? Any easy way to fix it ? Is it a relay that controls the fan speed ?

Need help with this, really annoying because step 4 on the control is really noisy!

    Looking forward for the replies!

    Regards,
    RockHard

Hey Rockhard, from my experiance of vehicle and marine electrics, some fans or small electric variable speed motors use a voltage reduction resistor to reduce voltage and therefore speed. position 4 would be the full 12V. Sounds like your resistor [if there is one and I really do not know this for sure] has blown, thus positions 1,2 and 3 do not work. Best of luck, Roborobs.

Thank you for the answer, Roborobs.

The thing that is kinda wierd is that it just suddently stopped working, but then it started working again for some few days, and now it stopped again. I am just really confused, because if it is a resistor or something like that, it shouldn't start working after it stopped.

Default The answer is not blowing in the wind

hi Rockhard, I had a look at my Haynes manual for the Felicia [wiring diagrams section 12.26], which I should have looked at earlier. I was however basically right, the fan has a series of three resistors [for each speed reduction] which are protected by a fuse. It may be your fuse has come slightly lose resulting in your intermitant fault or a bad connection. Either way this component has four wires going into it, green, yellow, white and blue. The full 12v and fuse is on the green wire,it has no independent earth so it is'nt that,[the most common cause of 12v failure]. I do not know where the component is in the car but its probably in a really awkward place behind the switch. You should find it if you follow the wires from the switch. It might just be a lose block connector, best of luck and please let me know how you get on. Cheers, roborobs.
