Question Haldex Differential + Engine block preheater

    Newbie seeking info...

Hi, I'm on (was on) the verge of putting my order in for the 4x4 estate with 2.0L CR engine, and reached the point where 'factory fitted' options came up.

Although residing in UK, a major portion of my winter (about 2 months) is spent in Norway, occasionally Sweden.

The factory fitted options I need in order of necessity are an engine preheater, to lift the engine temp from approx -20 ~ -30 degrees C before starting the motor proper. The second option was for the differential lock element which is now available with the 4th generation Haldex.

Czech contact said ask my importer... Skoda UK customer service agent replied 'we don't do those' - 'won't do those'. Suggested I bought the car from a country whose spec includes these and ask for a RHD option.

mmm... I'm sure not one of those happy drivers that Skoda make.

Does anyone have any specific knowledge of the above options and how to get them onto a UK spec Octavia?

I can get both options on a Volvo XC60 but would much rather have the Skoda, don't want to move away from the marque
as I've had such pleasure with them.

    Cheers,

    Laddie.

The auxilliary heater is apparently not an option that VAG offer on any UK spec car they do. Apparently we do not live in a cold enough climate. A car ordered abroad may be specified with this item but the reason for not in the UK may be the fact we drive on the correct side of the road, meaning some of the other stuff under the bonnet is in the way? I have wanted one of these aux heaters and they are available in both petrol and diesel versions, but I suspect the real reason is more likely to be low uptake, not through customer desire, but through ignorance of such items being even possible. Could it be that its easier to keep people happy when they are uninformed?...... They are made by Webasto for WV and locate in the same area as the windscreen washer reservoir.
DEFA are manufacturers of an after market aux heater that has a version for Skoda but fitting it may have warranty issues as it will involve cutting a rubber coolant pipe and connecting to the vehicle electrics which could cause CAN bus issues? this unit can also include a coolant pump and battery charger and is powered by 240v mains when parked. This sadly needs somewhere to plug it in unlike the catalyst / fuel powered units. You can get these in Sweden as I believe that is where they are made. See this link Welcome to DEFA - Homepage
    Good luck.

    Default engine pre-heater

Hi. We have just bought the same spec vehicle and today spoke to a Webasto dealer who thought that VAG would have fitted a pre-heater to such a modern engine but it would probably work in background to speed up the warm up cycle rather than a pre journey warm up.

Spoke to Skoda UK Customer Care and asked to talk to a technical help desk - no they do not talk to the public but she could ask if I could hold on - she came back to tell me no they don't

I will now go back to the Webasto dealer to try to spend our money

We had this piece of kit on our Volvo S60 D5 for 5 years and it was brilliant

This is one more reason not to buy another Skoda....
