'tis not inside the door ( I think ) but is the ' snake ' between door & front pillar. Pull it away from the pillar & soak in waterproof stuff. I now use ACF-50 expensive but seems to work.

just been working on my mates 02 vrs with similar problems and upon checking the controller attached to the window motor we have found water ingress to the multiplug which has rotted away 2 of the terminals so hopefully repairing this will solve the problem
(apparently this is a common fault and wrapping the unit in clingfilm is advised!)

    Default Job done!

The plug to the door controller on the drivers side was wet inside with some corrosion on the terminals.

Blew it out with the airline then sprayed WD-40
Checked passenger side, this was dry.
Fitted a silicone sleeve over the controller body & plug and taped the high side to keep out water in the future. (passenger's side shown)

    Default Removing the Door Trim

Hi Jerseyman, to take the drawer trim off you'll need Pozi screwdrivers a T15 torx driver and a butter knife.

Use the butter knife to prise out the handle insert, this locks the door switch panel into the moulding in the door trim. Don't slide the knife too deep or it'll go behind a fixed part of the panel.

Lift out the door switch panel & disconnect the plug from the underside.

Unscrew 3 pozi screws that secure the door switch panel support to the door.
(Later when you take the door trim off, you'll probably find a white spacer on the floor. It fits over the bush through which the middle one of these screws passes)

Remove 5off T15 screws from door trim
    (2off T15 screws hinge edge, 3off T15 screws bottom edge & 2off T15 screws door lock edge)

Prise out & disconnect the door courtesy light.

Prise off & disconnect the triangular speaker housing.

Prise off & disconnect the door mirror joystick panel.

Remove a pozi screw from behind inner door handle.

It should now be possible to lift the trim up and free from a fairly tight grip on the window weather seal.
Lift only enough to free the trim and lift above the lock button.

You need to disconnect the inline cable connector for the lock button LED
or remove the LED from the lock button housing.
Also detach the cable form the inner door handle.
(this is similar to a bycicle brake cable but with a hook)

Slide off all the screw retaining part of the clips.
Pull back the centre rivet pin before prising out the clips.

Take your time to carfully remove the waterproof membrane.
Use double sided tape to re-fit this later.
