    Default Skoda Octavia electric windows/locks

Hi I have a 1900 diesel octavia, all of a sudden the drivers door has stopped locking with the fob, & on two mornings I have gone out to find the windows down & all the doors unlocked. Has anyone got any ideas at all because as you can imagine its a little bit unsafe to leave on the road outside at the moment. Also the light in the door trim is on all the time while the ignition is on, (the one that normaly flashes after you lock the car). Cheers Reg

I can't fathom a reason why, but I found out recently that my octavia (1.9 Tdi Elegance 2006) has a function whereby holding down the unlock button for a long period of time (maybe 6 seconds?) not only unlocks all the doors but starts unwinding all the windows too!

Therefore, I can only assume that you have pressed the key by accident in your pocket whilst sat at home.

My theory is that, say you were running down the side of a mountain as fast as your legs could carry you, while being chased by hordes of angry, AK-47 carrying Russians intent on revenge after you succesfuly disabled their satelite ground station, and you see your car parked on the mountain road below you; it may be (and I stress "may") that you would like the window unwinding so that you could jump into the car as soon as you reached it to aid you quick get-away?

However, if you're not a '00' agent in Her Majesties secret service, then I imagine the function serves no purpose other than to annoy (see hog883).

No my german sheperd/ labrador would love it. So would we, open the window and let him in without having to fight with the door and him desperate to get in

It seems to be the reverse of the function on my fob. If I press and hold the lock button, everything locks as it should, and after a pause any open window, and the sunroof will close. I can't imagine the benefit of opening everything via a long press though, so it may be an aberration.

Maybe my fob does the same thing! I've not tried holding the lock key before. I can certainly see the logic to that function, if the kids have been winding the windows down and you realise when you come to lock the car, it's quite useful really,.

Still cannot fathom why you might want all the windows open though.

This started just before Christmas, returned to my car to find all windows down and car unlocked.
Nothing for a couple of days then locks would cycle while driving.
Settled down to all windows going down when the car was unlocked and only occasional chattering of locks.
Took the car into my favourite garage and stayed with the mechanic while he writhed off my driver's door panel and slashed his way through the foam skin beneath. He pinged off several cover caps to gain access to the door lock (they're missing now)
He was intending to take out the door lock mechanism. Apparently there are some microswitches that can become damaged by heavy frost.
When he started jabbing at the plastic bezel around the lock barrel I called it a day.
I've since removed the lock assembly and tested all five of the microswitches inside and there's no fault there.
I also bought a used convenience system (the controller that runs the locks & windows) exactly the same fault so I don't think it's the controller. Swapped back to the original controller.

A couple of weeks on and the fault has now changed. No more cycling of the locks, just erratic window operation whilst driving.

Just driven home on M62 with all windows operating all on their own (mostly down !) also passenger side door mirror moving up & down on it's own.

I suspect either an earth fault or something to do with the door controller on the driver's side.
If I can get the windows back up I'll try to disable the central locking & windows controller and trace the fault when the weather get's warmer.

I'd like to know how you've got on.

Same happened to our 2003 Fabia Estate.
Think the problem is water getting into the plug on the passenger door - plenty of WD40 type stuff on it should cure.
At the stealers this costs a lot to fix & they 'need' the car for 3 or 4 hours.
Sounds like a nice little earner for them!
    What, me cynical?
    .. In electronics section.

That might just do it. The fault is definately temperature/moisture dependant.
Locks were going crazy after about 30 minutes of driving and today, the windows only really got animated after about the same length of time.

I think I'll have to hack my way back into the door and get spraying.
