Thread: Purchase of Octavia TDi

Hi all!

I am looking to purchase an Octavia. Driven a them couple times before, 1.9 TDi and a very awesome 2.0 TDi on a 55 plate. I was so impressed I now want one.

I currently drive a 52 plate Focus ST170 but think I'd like to get a derv. Since Ford are not doing anything for me in terms for performance and style of the latest cars I'll have a go at owning the Octavia II.

When I go to check out this motor is there anything I should be looking for? It's an 05 plate Estate, Elegance with 133k on the clock!
Is this an 8v engine? I've performed the usual car checks, credit history, written off etc and it's come up clean.

Since you guys know the in's and out's of your motors you peeps are the best ones to ask for advice, such as gotchas etc, if you wouldnt mind!

I spotted a couple of Diesel Octavias on Autoquake. They specialise in selling on mainly ex Company cars and look reasonably priced.

I have had 2 diesel Octavias a MkI 1.9Tdi Elegance and a 2.0 Elegance MkII.

However last October I bought a 1.8TFSi Elegance. I bought it instead of a VRS Diesel it was much cheaper and since the diesel went up in price v Petrol I think its been the right choice. I am a highish mileage driver but the company pays my business fuel at a greater rate.

I expect my residuals will be lower but it means petrols are probabably good value second hand.

As far as I can see the 1.9 is an 8 valve engine and the 2.0 are all 16 valve but I could be wrong.
