    Default Broken Roadsprings

    Please help

In the last 5 months I have broken all 4 of my suspension springs (1.6 Octavia 2002). I really don't understand why. I don't carry anything heavier than shopping and spend most of my time plooding down the motorway. Is this a known fault? They didn't all go at the same time either - it is really strange, and expensive. It is costing me around £110 every time!

    Anyone have anything similar?

Hi 81 Bungle...unfortunately, what you have experienced affects all european cars made within the last 10 years (or thereabouts), not just Skodas. It is caused by badly made springs - their ends are not tapered as they ought to be so undue strain is put on the top and bottom coils ( it is the top coil which normally breaks off). My own well maintained 2001 Octy broke a front offside spring last year. The poor state of our roads dosn't help either. You have been unlucky to have had all four go. Regards, Big Kev.

You are right - it was the tops of all of them that went.

Even so, I have never had one go before, and it still seems odd to have 4 go so soon. Ho hum.
