    Default Its a mystery!!

    Hi all,

Just wondered if anyone could pin point a possible of 3 problems im currently having with my skoda, its a 2001 Octavia Vrs and just done over 80k mileage.
The engine fault light came on just before Xmas so i took it to a garage which cleared the fault and retested it to see if it was just a 'car fart' to which he explained sometimes they just fault for no reason. I later noticed the car was running cooler than it has normally before i.e. motorway driving the temperature needle would sit just about 10o'clock as you look at the gauge rather than half way as normal. Ive taken it back to another garage to get it tested again as the engine fault light came on recently again. It had 3 faults on it-

    -Turbo hose possible leak

-Temp switch faulty (temp could be normal but switch says otherwise)

-Front camba probe showing fault, possible probe on catalytic

Ive also had some suggestions from various friends which most of them have said it could just be the thermostat.

If anyone could help or have had a similar problem that would be great to know.

    Ta

Hi Terolin, welcome to the forum. As I have mentioned before, one of the most common faults on VW group cars of this age is the failure of the temperature sender unit. The replacement (green coloured) unit is more durable and costs about £28 from your local dealer. Hope this cures your problem. Kind regards, Big Kev.

Hi Terolin - how spooky as just joined this site to try and cure more or less the same persistent fault ! I have had the temperature sender switch replaced twice ! - and warning light has come back on again .
Getting to the end of my tether with it now ! - can anyone suggest other possible causes ? What is a camba probe ? Car seems sluggish at times and slow to respond when I press the accelerator - as though it is not getting the correct fuel /air mix . The replacement temperature switch was supposed to have cured this -and it is certainly better - but I still feel something is wrong.
Could the whole ECU need replacement ? My car is a 2001 Octavia VRS AND HAS DONE 110K.

I would welcome advice from members -THANK YOU

It could be although theirs things called modules that could be at fault all are rather expensive. We have chosen to avoid the £700-£1000 repair bill and start idnoring faults. The cars behavour is fine. The cars only worth about a grand IN CURRENT CLIMATE. So, really no point wasteing our cash. Just bodging or ignoring as we go now. worth £400 without repairs.

hi there. ihave joined as another disgruntled skoda owner.
I am having problems with my skoda the engine is hunting. I have replaced air mass flow sensor, and two very worn out breather pipes. it is better but not perfect. with a sluggish feel to it, maybe you should get the pipes checked out,as you may have lost the vaccuum within the engine, thus using more fuel.
