Default Help needed with Felicia 1.6 GLXi

    Hi
Has anyone had a problem similar to this problem that dad is having with his car.

He has an S reg 1.6 GLXi.
A few weeks ago it started cutting out as he was driving along. the car would start straight away after it had cut out but as soon as he lifted his foot off the throttle it would cut out again.
A friend of mine had a look at it and cleaned the carb, once this was done the car ran slightly better and would idle,
The car still cuts out when it is cold but it will idle a bit better when warm.

    Can anyone help us please

    Phil

It seems to run better when it is warm.
We have had a look for leaks but have not found any.
have not checked the IDLE CONTROL VALVE yet and have not tried adjusting the throttle cable but am not sure how to do this.

It should have a lock nut near carb to stop it pulling through. and an adjuster at end of cable protector. its normally all plact bits clipped into metal bracket give a 360 degree turn then adjust lock nut and then rev it. it will then settle in place repeat a few times try with engine warm if it doesnt solve try again with cold engine. some cars have a screww you can adjust to stop the thottle dropping so low on car it acts as a stop do as above with this two.

Have just got in from trying to sort this problem again.
Have been able to get it to tick over a bit better by adjusting the throttle cable but it is still not running properly.
We have noticed that when it is first started it runs well but after a few minutes there is a clicking noise from the carbon canister and the engine starts to hunt. when we remove the pipe leading to the charcol filter solinoid valve it runs better. We tried to bypass the canister completely but it still runs rough.

    Any more ideas please

I'm also having this problem with my 1.3 LXI.

I had it looked at by the AA and the guy said he recons its the crank shaft sensor.

Anyone got any views on this?
