Default Non-GSM gearbox oil and filter change

    Hello,

Sorry, the subject should say non-DSG, can't seem to edit it.

I recently had my Octavia 2.0 Elegance estate auto serviced at a Skoda dealer, 4th variable after 65,000 miles / 3.5 years old and am left with a few questions unanswered:

The garage advised that a gearbox oil and filter change was due, at a cost of £195 which I agreed to. Having since spoken to another Skoda dealer, they have said it is a sealed unit and doesn't need doing (not DSG).

When I quizzed them about this, they said they usually check the oil and found it to be dirty, so replaced oil and filters. Is that expected? He mentioned that he thinks I have a "DSM" gearbox, whatever that is (he didn't know).

After the service, the display is now not showing me how many miles / days to my next service, instead is shows dashes (---) for both. I have since done over 100 miles and no change. The garage have expressed ignorance of what it should be showing but will get back to me in a couple of days.

One minor point, they said my front disc pads were 70% worn and quoted me £145 to replace them which I declined as it seems a lot.

    Thanks for any advice.
    John
