Thread: oil changing maintenance question

I'm new to this forum and i have a question.
In which service am i required to change the gearbox oil in an automatic Fabia 1.4 2005 comfort? is it by miles or years?

OK every 40 000 miles it should be checked or if/when problems ocures.
Its long life oil that should last a long time. lol.
Its quite a complexed process to check it

Isn't it kinda strange that an oil doesn't need any changing until "something's wrong" ?
Does it use "SuperOil" ?
And why is the check so complex as you say?

Ok in breif, take car for short drive, return and place on ramps, leave engine running. Ensure gearbox oil is at 35 degrees C. place tray to catch oil. Then undo refill nut some oil should splash out this means the level is fine and from oil splases the condition of oil can be checked. As temp increases, as will the splashes, untill it starts to poor which will be at 45degree C. nut must be replaced by this point to aVoId damageing the box. It holds 5.7 litres. If it needs topping up some normal suitable gear oil can be used, only up to 500ml though.
so timeing is esSentail and you really need to have done it before, on a good and bad example in my opion, to know what your doing. I have now Idea how you know when its at the temps stated
