Default Loosing Coolant, Fabia 3 1.9TDI

Loosing coolant at a rate of 200 miles, between the Max and Min marks on the header tank. Cannot detect any leak stains inside or outside the vehicle. Skoda dealer cannot find anything. Only started a few months ago, coolant indicator comes on around 500 miles. The coolant level in the header tank is then about half full, temperature gauge still reading normal. Engine appears to be running OK. Has anybody may else had or has this problem.

I would advise removal of sump gaurd, and lay out some card paper towl to see if any water appears. first just standing say over night next whilst running and under load. Check all hoses, check round temp sender and dont forget to check oil. Also look for grey smoke from exhaust

    Hi Johnp,
Car mileage 7850 and its still under warrenty. I thought about the head gasket, but the engine appear to run OK! As its still under warrenty I will take it back again to my local dealer, and they can keep it until the fault is rectified. Thanks for replying.

    Hi TDI 100,
As the car is still ubder warrenty I will return it again to my local dealer.
I did check for leaks around all water hoses. I will check for grey smoke from the exhaust as you surggest. I also checked the engine oil, that looked OK.

    Many thanks for your reply.

Yes I did check around the oil filler cap and all looked OK. However after doing 30 miles I looked at the dipstick and found what I took to be beads of water within the oil, which is a bit alarming. Can one get water in the oil without showing that white/yellow gunk around the oil filler cap?

ity is if your breather system is good it can simple evorperate out. Id wipe dip stick clean and place in and out a few times wipeing inbetween. Ensure its fitted tight in place think it has a retauning clip to ? . give it a couple of days and check again.

    Talking Loosing Coolant, Fabia

Hello, I had the same problem, all seemed OK, no leakage, I went to the shop and they said it was OK, at first it was only that, soon the Coolant tank had lots of pressure in it, I went back to the garage they said it was OK, after a while it did not start. had to take it to the shop and they changed the head gasket. After that it was fine.

Hope this helps to either find or rule out some fault.
    BTW: I have a 2001 1,4 petrol Fabia

    Hello ThinStar,
    Thanks for your reply.
I took the car back to my local dealer and they pressurised the water system (again) and found no water leaks again. They stated they would contact Skoda Technical department for advice. They topped up the header tank, I’ve done 200 miles since the top up and the coolant level is going down n, as I expected. It sounds very similar to your problem.
I intend to contact my dealer again and state keep the car until the fault is rectified.

    Regards
