Problems with fluctuating revs?
Hi,
I'm new to this forum but have been driving my Skoda Fabia for almost two years now. I'm very happy with the car, but have noticed an intermittent problem with the rev's fluctuating whilst idle and also whilst driving.
The car revs idel at around 900 RPM, then intermittently they fluctuate between 500 - 1300 and the car begins to shake! after a few seconds the car will return to idling at around 900 RPM.
I have also experianced problems whilst driving down the Motorway at around 70 MPH the car was at around 3000 - 4000 RPM and the revs suddenly dropped to 2000 then returned to its original RPM. This is rather unnerving especially at 70MPH!
The engine management light has been coming on and I have had it into the graage a few times. The ERG valve has been cleaned and later replaced but the problem still exists. I have had a full service and its only done 27,000 miles.
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing the problem?

Similar problem
If its a 1.4 16v 100 bhp engine, we had a similar problem, but I guess it is fairly common.
We had something very similar on ours that has done 47k miles now, whilst out on the road. Our cruise control was on and we suddenly experienced all the descriptions you have mentioned. Turned out to be two loose coils in our case. Would be worth if you've got breakdown cover, calling them out when you are next out and about, it took our guy 10 minutes to find the problem and has been fine for the last 8 weeks.
Hope that helps.
